What It Means

I've been here a thousand times before
Face down on the floor
Wondering how I even reached this place again

But, You have shown so endlessly, how Your love pours over me
No picture can re-create the beauty that I see

Show me what it means, to live my life a sacrifice
If only I would realize how much it took to pay the price
I know I'd always give, everything to You

I want this world to see
Your perfect majesty
Reflecting from my life this brilliant poetry

Written all over this place
The signs of all creation that You breathed
Words can't even state how much You mean to me

Show me what it means, to live my life a sacrifice
If only I would realize how much it took to pay the price
I know I'd always give, everything to You

I want to face my very crime
Of not giving all of mine
But I can feel the hope You bring to me

Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

The Point of Pain

The darkness that surrounds grief or depression can be so deep that it seems no light will ever penetrate it, and that no end is in sight.

Depression is not something that has only just been recognised, it existed in the times when the bible was written. Job was one of those who suffered deep depression and pain:

Job 3:20-23 (NIV)
"Why is light given to those in misery, and life to the bitter of soul, to those who long for death that does not come, who search for it more than for hidden treasure, who are filled with gladness and rejoice when they reach the grave? Why is life given to a man whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in?."

There was a point to Job's suffering, he learned various lessons during his depression which he couldn't have learned any other way. He learned lessons which are still relevant to each of us today:

  • We have an intercessor in heaven who counts our tears and can lift us out of depression
  • We have a living Redeemer who will stand on earth at last
  • God is the the power behind all nature and the one who cares for all He has made

Job came out of his dark time with a new insight:
My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Job 42:5 (NIV)

When we're in our darkest times, that's often when we see God in a way we would never have seen when life is running smoothly for us. What we find out about God during our darkest times is what can make those painful and depressing times worthwhile - maybe not right at that time, but certainly later when we truly appreciate what God has done for us.

God's presence is as important to us as God's protection, and God's presence is all we need.

Trusting God

Are you a risk taker? Are you good at taking risks, or are you frightened of the unknown or uncertain?

Are you scared of taking a risk in case you let others down, in case you let God down?

In Pslam 56:11 the psalmist says, "I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me?".

Do you believe God is trustworthy? God is trustworthy whether we trust Him or not. God wants us to trust Him fully so that we no longer need to worry about anything, we simply trust God in all we do.

No matter what your fears, put your full trust in God today and everyday, we can count on Him always.

Walk By Faith

Do you "walk by faith"?
Is your faith such that no matter what you face, it stays strong and keeps you focus on God?
Do you believe God plans the way ahead for you?

Have you answered No to any of these questions? If so I'd like to encourage you to put your trust fully in God. I, like many others can vouch for the fact that God will never let you down. He will plan your life for you and lead you along His path. You might find the path He's chosen for you is not the one you expected, however God knows you better than you know yourself, so trust Him he knows what is best for you.

God will use you to help spread His wonderful message if only you'll put your full trust in Him and walk by faith.

Walk By Faith (by Jeremy Camp)
Will I believe you when you say
Your hand will guide my every way
Will I receive the words You say
Every moment of every day

Well I will walk by faith
Even when I cannot see
because this broken road
Prepares Your will for me

Help me to rid my endless fears
You've been so faithful for all my years
With the one breath You make me new
Your grace covers all I do

yeah, yeah , yeah, yeah, ya

well i will walk by faith
even when i cannot see
because this broken road
prepares your will for me

Well I'm broken- but I still see Your face
Well You've spoken- pouring Your words of grace

Well I will walk by faith
Even when I cannot see
Well because this broken road
Prepares Your will for me

Well I will walk by faith
Even when I cannot see
Well because this broken road
Prepares Your will for me

Hallelujah, hallelu

I will walk by faith, I will walk by faith,
I will walk by faith
I will walk by faith, I will walk by faith,
I will walk by faith
I will walk by faith, I will walk by faith,
I will walk by faith
I will walk by faith
I will walk,I will walk
Faith
I will walk, I will walk by faith

Too Busy

Have you had a busy day today? Or indeed a busy day any day this week?

Think about that busy day, did you find time to talk with God, to have some quality personal time with Him?

If I'm honest with you my own answer to that question is no I didn't make time to speak to God! I'm sure many of you will have given the same answer as me, so don't worry you're not alone. Personally I found myself concentrating so much on me as I wasn't feeling too good from the moment I woke up this morning, so I struggled through the rest of day myself without going to God for help and strength. If only I'd taken it all to God in prayer, what a different day I might have had!

Anyway, back to your busy day...
At any point during your day did you phone, text or email a friend? Or did you Tweet?

My guess would be that like me, despite having a busy day, you did find time to do one of these things. Am I right? C'mon be truthful!

So we've found time to do other things that were not essential to our day, but not time to talk to God. That is not right is it?!

I pray today that in the future as we face busy and difficult days in our life, we might take time out, even if just a few minutes, to talk to God and leave our day in His hands. If we do this, God will be there with us during our day and will help make our day that little bit easier to get through.

Slow Down Time by Jeremy Camp

Staring at this empty canvas,
Waiting for the next stroke of my life.
It seems to go by so fast.
Another day I've wasted wondering,
How it all ends up instead of resting,
That it's all in Your hands.
My only piece is waiting before You.
My praise to You,
Drowning noise around me.

I wish I could slow down time,
I wish I could wait here at your feet.
'Cause with you is the only place that I wanna be.
I know I should take it all in stride.
I know you are there with every reach.
'Cause with you is the only place that I wanna be.

On my own I always fade out fast,
On the run my every step will last.
I'm resting in your words that never fail.
Your searching every part of me.
I need to stop so I could hear You speak.
I long for you so here I am so thirsty.
My only piece is waiting before You.
My praise to You,
Drowning the noise around me.

I wish I could slow down time,
I wish I could wait here at your feet.
'Cause with you is the only place that I wanna be.
I know I should take it all in stride.
I know you are there with every reach.
'Cause with you is the only place that I wanna be.

It's where I wanna be,
The greatness of your presence always leaving me here speechless.
I've given up on making this life my home.
In the fullness of your glory is beyond my comprehension.
There's no greater joy then being with you my King.

I wish I could slow down time,
I wish I could wait here at your feet.
'Cause with you is the only place that I wanna be.
I know I should take it all in stride.
I know you are there with every reach.
'Cause with you is the only place that I wanna be.

Would You Take Jesus' Place?

Would you be prepared to take His place?

I cannot comprehend how it must have felt for God, to sacrifice is only son just so my sins could be forgiven. How must Jesus have felt to know his own father was willing to let Him die on a cross? It's impossible to understand just how they must have felt.

So how can we repay them for what they did for us? We can give our heart to God, and live our lives for Him, doing all He asks of us.

Give your heart to God today!

God Time

Life can be like a ball of string - some times we're wound up so tightly we feel we might break if one more thing pulls our "string" any tighter; other times we can feel the complete opposite, feeling completely worn out by everything life has flung at us we're more like an unravelled ball of string!

So where am I going with this ball of string? Well to keep our lives from getting unravelled or wound up too tightly, we need to have an active prayer life.

Prayer will help us to wind up the unravelled ball of string or release the pressure on the over tight ball of string. But that can't just happen without our cooperation - we must find a place and a time when we can be alone with God in prayer, to talk to Him but also to listen to Him.

In Psalm 5:3 the psalmist says "Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly". Do you spend time each morning waiting on God?

We all have such busy lives these days, so you may find it impossible to find a regular time/place to spend in prayer. So can I make a suggestion? Put time in your diary or calendar to spend with God in prayer - it has allowed me to spend much more time in prayer than I was previously doing when I was just trying to fit it in when/where I could - that doesn't work - God needs and wants you to spend quality time with Him.

So whether you're feeling wound up tight or completely unravelled and desperate to spend time alone with God, make a cup of tea or coffee, get your calendar and mark in your appointments with God, your "God time".

Alone in a Crowd

Have you ever felt alone?
Have you ever felt alone when in a crowd of people?

If you've been in both the above situations, you've felt the way I have the last few days. It's not a nice feeling is it?

But hold onto the fact that even when it feels like we're alone, we are not, God is always by our side. Talk to God. God will help.

You Will Be There (by Jeremy Camp)

I begin the day
with the faith you fashion my ways,
And I cannot escape
for your hand it leads.
Your right hand holds me.

[Chorus]
When I wake, you will be there.
When the sun goes down in the night,
You will be there.

My life has been ordained.
You have formed this very frame
And I am fearfully made.
For I was made in that secret place

[Repeat Chorus]

How precious are your
thoughts, all over me.
They're more than the
sands of the sea.

[Repeat Chorus]

When You Are Near

I've had another day of feeling extremely tired and sore again. So I've turned to my usual musical therapy to lift my spirits. So today I just want to share another one of the songs which I find helpful - When You Are Near by Jeremy Camp.
