A Call To Celebrate

That was the Sydney Staff Songsters of the Salvation Army singing a wonderful arrangement of Revelation 19.

Revelation 19 contains words of praise and worship and encourages us to celebrate God's wonderful love for us each and every day. We so often take God's love for us for granted, so why not listen to the Songsters sing Revelation 19 again, and then share a prayer of praise and thanksgiving to God for all he's done for you today and for all He will do in the future.

The Message version of the bible says the following in Revelation 19:1-10 under the heading of The Sound of Hallelujahs:

I heard a sound like massed choirs in Heaven singing, Hallelujah!
The salvation and glory and power are God's—
his judgments true, his judgments just.
He judged the great Whore who corrupted the earth with her lust.
He avenged on her the blood of his servants.
Then, more singing:
Hallelujah!
The smoke from her burning billows up to high Heaven forever and ever and ever.

The Twenty-four Elders and the Four Animals fell to their knees and worshiped God on his Throne, praising,
Amen! Yes! Hallelujah!

From the Throne came a shout, a command:
Praise our God, all you his servants,
All you who fear him, small and great!

Then I heard the sound of massed choirs, the sound of a mighty cataract, the sound of strong thunder:
Hallelujah!
The Master reigns, our God, the Sovereign-Strong!
Let us celebrate, let us rejoice, let us give him the glory!
The Marriage of the Lamb has come; his Wife has made herself ready.
She was given a bridal gown of bright and shining linen.
The linen is the righteousness of the saints.

The Angel said to me, "Write this: 'Blessed are those invited to the Wedding Supper of the Lamb.'" He added, "These are the true words of God!"

I fell at his feet to worship him, but he wouldn't let me. "Don't do that," he said. "I'm a servant just like you, and like your brothers and sisters who hold to the witness of Jesus. The witness of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

It's Free!

Do you believe you can get something for nothing?
Are you sceptical when someone tells you you can have something for nothing?

It's true I'm sure that there are some things in life that you can get free of charge. Well that includes salvation, as God tells us:

The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.
Revelation 22:17 (NIV)
Please do not be sceptical, although eternal life does not come to us for free, it simply means that someone has to pay the price...and that someone was Jesus! He has paid the ultimate price for us on the cross - "He paid a debt he did not owe; I owed a debt I could not pay".

When we accept Jesus as our saviour, God transferred our sins to his account. In other words our debt is taken from us because Jesus paid our debt in full! And that is why He can offer us eternal life free of charge!

So stop trying to pay the debt yourself, just come to God.

Come is such a simply word but it's the only one required to invite you to God...Come!

I found this simply prayer on the internet, please use it to invite God into your life today:
Lord, I'm coming, I'm coming to Christ. I'm coming to say I'm sorry that you had to die to pay the punishment for sins you didn't commit - mine! Thank you, Lord Jesus. Lord, I'm coming. I'm coming to say I'm done with trying to "buy" influence with you. I've run out of currency - I'm bankrupt. "nothing in my hands I bring. Simply to your cross I cling". Jesus, I've come - here I am - forgive me, come into my heart, enter my life, and give me eternal life. Thank you Lord Jesus! Amen

Everything God has done was just so you would come to Him...

First Love

Do you remember the first time you fell in love? There is nothing quite like it is there.
  • First love laughs at an impossibility and declares it can be done.
  • First love happily makes a fool of itself for the loved one, without caring who sees.
  • First love loves wildly and extravagantly, exulting in the high privilege of giving itself away.
  • First love often obsesses and possesses until it sees, thinks about, or cares for no other things than the loved one, at whatever cost.

Is this an accurate description of your love for God?

Have you settled into a settled relationship with God?

Has your heart become hard to everything around you and for God?

Revelation 2:4-5 (NIV)
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.

Maybe nothing has changed in your daily routine, but you've simply lost the reality of the loving relationship you have with God.

Maybe you continue to do "churchy" things as you've always done, but are finding they are less effective then they used to be - all because you've lost your first love relationship with God!

Are you still in love with God, or are your days full of routines or duties?

So how do we rekindle that first love relationship with God?

Well we can can remember the joy of our meetings with God when we had that first love relationship, and we can then make our meetings with Him joyful once again. We can revisit the place we explored with God and can reread God's letters to us in the scriptures. We can talk to God about rekindling our first love. We can ask God to forgive us for losing our first love relationship with Him, and ask Him to to lift us to the height of that fulfilling love once again.

Let God lift your love for Him to new heights today.
